Morning

Pray for one another so that you may be healed. — Jas 5:16 NET

Then Abraham asked, “Since I have undertaken to speak to the Lord (although I am but dust and ashes), what if there are five less than the fifty godly people? Will you destroy the whole city because five are lacking?” He replied, “I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”

“Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”—“Pray for those who persecute you.”

“I am praying on behalf of them. I am not praying on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those you have given me, because they belong to you…. I am not praying only on their behalf, but also on behalf of those who believe in me through their testimony.”—Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness. Elijah was a human being like us, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain and there was no rain on the land for three years and six months!

Evening

A person’s life is like grass. Like a flower in the field it flourishes, but when the hot wind blows by, it disappears, and one can no longer even spot the place where it once grew. — Ps 103:15-16 NET

So teach us to consider our mortality, so that we might live wisely.—“For what benefit is it for a person to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his life?”

Surely humanity is like grass. The grass dries up, the flowers wither, but the decree of our God is forever reliable.—The world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remains forever.

Look, now is the acceptable time; look, now is the day of salvation!—Those who use the world as though they were not using it to the full. For the present shape of this world is passing away.—Let us take thought of how to spur one another on to love and good works, not abandoning our own meetings, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and even more so because you see the day drawing near.
