But since we are of the day, we must stay sober by putting on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet our hope for salvation. — 1 Thess 5:8 NET
Therefore, get your minds ready for action by being fully sober, and set your hope completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.—Stand firm therefore, by fastening the belt of truth around your waist, by putting on the breastplate of righteousness,… and in all of this, by taking up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
He will swallow up death permanently. The sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from every face, and remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. Indeed, the Lord has announced it! At that time they will say, “Look, here is our God! We waited for him and he delivered us. Here is the Lord!… Let’s rejoice and celebrate his deliverance!”
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.

When the Israelites deployed opposite them, they were like two small flocks of goats, but the Syrians filled the land. — 1 Kgs 20:27 NET
“This is what the Lord says: ’Because the Syrians said, ”The Lord is a god of the mountains and not a god of the valleys,“ I will hand over to you this entire huge army. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” The armies were deployed opposite each other for seven days. On the seventh day the battle began, and the Israelites killed 100,000 Syrian foot soldiers in one day.—You are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God! I strengthen you – yes, I help you – yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand!
“They will attack you but they will not be able to overcome you, for I will be with you to rescue you,” says the Lord.
